Website

Website

I really wanted to always have a website where i can update my journey as a visual artist and document everything like my blogs. Having a website will be give me a social space where people can view my work. Designing the website was time consuming but worth everything. I will put the link down so you can view it and share your ideas with me in the contact bar.

I have taken some screenshots of my website that i have done. Really proud of myself for designing it in that way that i could express myself.

When i finalise my website i will be paying for it so its published and ready to view to the world.

What Worked?
I am really proud to say that i now have a website but having to work on it really made everything worth it.

What Didn't Work?
Having to start from scratch to design my website and learning how to use the program.

What Next?
Publishing my website and advertising it on social media.

Final Show

Show

This was my final results for my show on the 19th Of November. I really had fun with this and was excited on how i will be presenting my final work. The first image was the standard way i put the images up then changing the positions of the images in the next two photos. It created are warm and balanced space and i am very proud of how it turned out.

For my final show i printed around 20 of my wanted poster and put it around the city to bring back the old school feel of a wanted man.

I created my own website for my work and other visual artworks. Moving image tattooing and illustration work.

What Worked?
Im Really happy with the final results and how it was positioned in the end. And sharing the space with Albert really complimented each others work.

What Didn't Work?
Besides the images being changed and balanced. I really wanted the images to be bigger only to cover the walls that i put my work on but overall happy with my placement.

What Next?
Gaining confidence from this show with Albert really helped me with how i can adapt to the spaces that i get from now and the future shows.

Show With Rebecca: Gallery Research

Fresh Gallery

The first gallery that i will be looking at is Fresh Gallery Otara. this gallery is based at 5/46, Otara town center and was opened on May the 6th 2006. This is are good chance for local artists to give them the profile and experience to exhibit nationally and internationally.

they aim to have are professional art space and promote exhibitions that relate to the context of its location and the community. this will help emerging artist to gain experiences and understanding of professional art practice.

OMAC: Otara Music Arts Center

O.M.A.C
Otara Music Arts Centre is based on are space for musicians and performers to express themselves through music. In the start of this semester Albert Taala planned his work with OMAC and started his murals on objects for his show. So i began to search for a public space that i can use to show my artworks. We then partnered up and decided we are going to have a collaborated show together and share the public space.

OMAC has always been the place for youth to express their thoughts and show the community what they love to do. So without are dealt i was pleased to fit in this public space and show my work.

What Worked?
I like the fact that i get to show my work in this space been a local from the day i was born has really made me feel as if i am showing my work in my backyard.

What Didn't Work?
The last minute touch ups with my work and my press kits really took a while and planning my locations and taking photos was a mission.

What Next?
having more time to plan more when i get my space will really help me in the future shows.

Press Kit Research

I really like the design of this press kit only because it contains the text and image with its own style. It compliments each other and it gives it are nice look and position of the press kit.

This press kit is really good because the way that its positioned. With my press kit i will looking at how i can position my text and my wanted image and make it work.

Having these ideas for my press kits that i will be making is going to depend on how much time i take to do them.

Press Kits

I will be doing a Post card, Badge and Poster for my show on the 12th of November 2015 at O.M.A.C centre.

for my post card, badge and Poster.I will be using the wanted poster as the main image in my press kits.

Post Card

Having it landscape so i it suit the size for the post card but for the poster and badge the size will be good and decent size.

Il be starting with the Post card first. and this is what i have so far.

This is the front of the post card that have just finished. The reason why i went with the creamy brown colour was because of my comic strip and the colour of it suits the theme of my artwork.

I changed my mind when it came to having the final product of my post card. I really like the simple but effective when it comes to the designing the post card layout.

Back Cover

I want this to be the back of the post card having the details of the show and the title. To add to the back will have to be a biography of me with a few sentences about me.

Front Cover

The front of the post card is just a wanted poster of me. having it rotated so the image is in the portrait positioned for the viewer to see it at its original.

Poster

This is me and Albert's poster that we collaborated on because we are sharing the same space so we shared ideas on how we can merge our works together and come up with a poster we can both have.

I really like the outcome of this only because i kept my image and he worked around it to give it are look that he always does in his artworks.

This is my single poster that i have done and i like the wanted poster type of look. Giving it that old western look to it. and putting the information on the right side of the poster. I cant wait for the final outcome when i print out the work.

What Worked?
I really like the final images that i have designed for me and alberts show on the 19th Of November. Positive outcome

What Didn't Work?
The only thing that i didn't like was the time management with the prints for my work. Having to print the images was a hassle and it wasn't a good feeling.

What Next?
I enjoyed this process and how i feel about the images that i have done with Albert. Cant wait for my upcoming shows in the future.

Artist Statement Draft

Let me introduce myself my name is Jackson Tainefu and I am a Visual Artist. My art practice consists of illustrations and animations. Representing myself, friends, and my family as are tool to express myself through my artwork and  communicate our experiences in stories. Having work around my family and friends that inspire me to create ideas of my community and my culture. My cultural values play a big part in my practice and my stories reflect my everyday experiences, for example I like to undermine stereotypes that are usually projected onto young brown men such as myself. It has helped me create artworks where I show the negative and positive situations in my work. There is two sides to every story and that is how my life has been so far being a voice for my community.

I use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, working between the two programs so that they complement each other and produce comic book style images that are unique. Flipping these typecasts with humour and using motifs from cartoons that I used to watch when I was young. Digital prints where I create series of work. I have been looking at illustrations of artwork that relate to my practice and how it can benefit me and give me ideas that I can use in my up and coming series. Animation artists that use storyboards as a way to maintain the structure of the story. Merging both animation and comic strips to create my own experiences.

This is all done in an attempt to communicate my perspective and to provide a voice that portrays my experiences in a positive light, with the intention of sharing these stories with my community and other people who can relate to these same experiences. My art practice has given me a wide view into another genre of animation. The foundation of my artworks are from images where i add my own style and make illustrations. I have recently completed my comic strip that will be presented at my first show titled Forgive And Forget.
