Show With Rebbeca: Public Space

For this paper we are required to present our artwork in are public space and for me i will be looking at spaces that relate to my art practice and is suitable for my family and friends to view the work. This has been the first location and it is certainly are learning experience for me.

Otara Police Station

When i thought of places that i can use for my show at the end of the year i thought of the old police station. Only because my work was a comic strip and the story had the police involved into it.

I got information on how i could contact the building managers so i emailed Land Infomation Of New Zealand to use the building

When i emailed them i explained to them who i was what i do and what i wanted from them.

This was a reply from Elizabeth who is working for Crown Property. In that case i didn't get to use the space for my show.

What worked?
having the chance to go through the processes really helped me understand on what i have to do to get what i want.

What Didn't work?
The building that i wanted wasn't available because of the state it was in. Making sure that i can apply for a space that i know i will get.

What next?
Will look around the community for are space or a particular place that i can plan to show my work in the end of the year.

Show With Rebecca: 500 word Proposal

DRAFT

Jackson Tainefu
Show
Untitled

I would like to introduce myself my name is Jackson Tainefu and I am of Samoan and Maori descent. Being part of two cultures has helped me understand the negative and positive things in the art industry. I am a South Auckland based artist living in Otara. I am currently doing my Bachelors of Visual Arts at Manukau Institution of Technology in Otara.

My art practice involves illustrations and animations of myself my friends and family using them to empower my artworks. I use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to do my work. I work between the two programs and it has helped me become are better visual artist. My culture plays a big part in my practice when it comes to most of my work.Using Cartoons that i used to watch when i was young, so i use that side of my memories as are art form that people can relate to and feel inspired.

I have a wide range of skills that I have gained throughout the years of my art practice. Working between moving images where I film and write story boards for music videos documentaries and short films. Still images where I use them as are foundation for my work to develop are unique style. I really like the idea of bringing my childhood memories into my art practice.

I would like to exhibit my work in your space as its local and related to crime in are humorous way. I will be displaying three colored images that are A1 size. The storyline of my comic is about two boys, one lives in the city with his mom and the other boy lives in Otara. The boy from the city steals and gets arrested but the boy in Otara gets framed because they look alike. Both are taken to the holding cells. The location is in a place that has sentimental value to me. Having my show there will be a honor and to be in there in a positive way.
